His nature is revealed in the various names of God... found in the Hebrew language. Art is used to explore some of His qualities and to apply this understanding of who God is to our lives.
The Teaching Ministry
Bible Study Lesson 1: Elohim - God Our Creator
To Do: Read Day 1 Devotion in the E-Book
Elohim is the almighty, authoritative God who speaks creation into existence and is the source of all life and order. This power establishes His absolute sovereignty over all things seen and unseen.
Elohim at Work in the Bible (KJV Examples)
Example 1: The Absolute Originator of All Things. The very first sentence of the Bible defines Elohim as the ultimate power, the one who existed before all else and established the universe by fiat.
"In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth." – Genesis 1:1 (KJV)
Example 2: The Cosmic Word of Power. This example demonstrates the authority of Elohim in creation, showing that the sheer force of His word brought the heavens and everything in them into being, establishing immediate order.
"By the word of the LORD were the heavens made; and all the host of them by the breath of his mouth." – Psalm 33:6 (KJV)
Example 3: The Sovereign Sustainer of Existence. Here, the people of God praise Elohim not only for initiating creation but for actively sustaining the cosmos. He is the single being who maintains the order and life of everything He created.
"Thou, even thou, art LORD alone; thou hast made heaven, the heaven of heavens, with all their host, the earth, and all things that are therein, the seas, and all that is in them, and thou preservest them all; and the host of heaven worshippeth thee." – Nehemiah 9:6 (KJV)
Thought-Provoking Questions for Reflection
How does acknowledging Elohim as the sovereign Originator who speaks creation into existence (Genesis 1:1) change the way I approach a seemingly "impossible" or "dead" situation in my life today?
Since I am made in the image of Elohim (Genesis 1:26), in what specific way can I exercise the authority and godly creativity He has placed within me to bring order and life to a chaotic area of my world this week?
